Innisfil Community Foundation: Community Round Up

Community Round Up – Nov. 27, 2020

There are so many good things happening in and around Innisfil. We want to keep you connected, which is why we put together this community round-up sharing the latest from Innisfil Community Foundation (ICF), updates from our grantees, and news from across our community.

The latest from ICF

  • #BlackFriday and #CyberMonday are two days that are good for the economy – something we can all agree are more important this year than ever before. But what if there was a day that is good for the community, too? This Tuesday, December 1st is #GivingTuesday – a day that harnesses the generosity of people around the world to bring about real change and address local challenges. It brings together the collective power of community to encourage and amplify small acts of kindness. This #GivingTuesday, we encourage you to give back locally with a donation to Innisfil Community Foundation or any of our incredible grantees that are doing such important work in our community.

  • Did you know that December is the busiest season for charitable giving? As the end of the year closes in, time is running out on tax deductible donations. Tax incentives are significant, amounting to as much as 53% of your charitable donation. We’re happy to announce that, in addition to traditional online donations, ICF is now accepting donations of publicly-traded securities or mutual funds. Donating securities directly to ICF is an efficient way to give charitably – since capital gains taxes don’t apply, ICF receives the full fair market value to invest in our community, and you get a tax receipt which reflects your larger contribution. This means you can give more, and get more!

Grantee Updates

  • Matthews House Hospice is launching their 12 Days of Giving online raffle on December 1st. Funds raised will help provide compassionate palliative care for all of South Simcoe.
  • CMHA is offering a free interactive workshop on Tuesday, December 8th to provide tips and strategies for self care and resiliency. Looking after your mental health is more important than ever as we enter the winter months of the COVID-19 pandemic. Registration is on a first come, first serve basis – don’t miss out!

Community News

  • With all of the need in our community throughout COVID-19 , it can be easy to forget about our furry friends. This article shines a light on some of the incredible work that local doggie daycare, Thee Place for Paws, has been undertaking to support animal rescues during the pandemic.
  • “Light it Up Innisfil” – a new community-building contest for the holidays – has had over 100 houses sign up and are looking for more participants. Use this entry form to register your house. It’s only $10 to sign up and all funds raised support the Innisfil Food Bank and C4K.
