An Innisfil Community Foundation would provide greater freedom and flexibility to established charities and other groups supporting local causes in Innisfil.
Since 2013, the Town of Innisfil has squirrelled away $100,000 a year from the money it receives from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) for hosting a casino. It plans to use the funds to create a charitable organization dedicated to improving Innisfil.
The fund now sits at a little more than $1 million.
The Innisfil Community Foundation has been registered as a charity, a board of directors has been picked, and they are waiting for council’s go-ahead to start fulfilling their mandate.
